Get an MRI: Most of these cysts will be benign and never cause problems. However, these cysts are somewhat large and MRI is best able to demonstrate whether they have benign or concerning characteristics. See reference: radiology: volume 256: number 3, september 2010.

it shows in my ct scan that i have a physiologic birateral adnexal cysts, larger on my right side. what does it mean? is it something to worry about?

: Physiologic ovarian cysts are common and benign, they usually resolve after 6-8 weeks.

: Why was the CT done is more important. The unfortunate thing is that inconsequential findings from CT could result in more unnecessary tests, expenses and anxiety. It is most likely inconsequential, however discuss with your health care professional so that adequate follow up may help in making sure may be the best option.

: Kidney cysts are a benign collection of fluid in a closed space in the kidney and occur in about 25% of pt and usually found incidentally when being tested for another condition. Low density means it is not a solid lesion which would be a tumor. Nothing needs to be done about it . just an ultasound followup in a few years .

Ovarian cyst: A ct of abdomen and pelvis would see a cyst/tumor/growth/mass on ovaries over 1 cm in size. Transvaginal ultrasound is better for defining the characteristics of the ovarian cyst/tumor/growth/mass.

Hyperdense cyst: On noncontrast CT scans, most simple kidney cysts look very dark or hypodense because the fluid inside of them is just like water.  A hyperdense cyst looks much lighter or brighter compared to the kidney itself.  This usually just means that there is high protein in the cyst or that the cyst has bled at some point.

Protein: Hyperdense cysts can be associated with higher amounts of protein which will increase density.  Sometimes these cysts may have a little blood or fibrin that may increase density. Calcium in the wall of the cyst is easily seen and different from the other things

yes: Yes, if it is large enough. Ct will usually detect ovarian cysts 10mm or larger, but an ultrasound is a better way to evaluate the ovaries and does not utilize radiation.

Accepted Answer
