Effects last 4-6 hrs: Maximum effect of Atarax (hydroxyzine) takes place at 30-60 minutes. Its effects last about 4-6 hours. It's completely eliminated from your system after about 40 hours.

Yes: Both drugs cross into the brain and will effect it in different ways for each individual. Either drug could have a bad individual effect, but together you increase the chance of a reaction. The best way to know it this causes a bad reaction for you is your own experience. If it happens, don't expect it to quit if you try them together again.

It depends: But if it is a false positive just ask for confirmatory testing which will come back negative.  Atarax (hydroxyzine) doesn't routinely cause false positives in my experience.

Long acting: The antihistaminic effect of Hydroxyzine lasts for at least 72 hours.  However it is unusual but not impossible for the sedating effect to last more than 24 hours.

if i took an ativan at 8 am this morning to help sleep, can i take hydroxyzine around 6 am the following morning ( 22 hours later) to help with sleep? ativan didn't help me and i'm nervous taking benzo medication and feel much safer with hydroxyzine?

: No sleeping aids are safe in the long run and you are perfectly right if staying away from Ativan. Lifestyle changes are best and if applicable, changing your job/shift as sleeping disorders are common in night shift workers. There should be no issue in trying the hydroxyzine 22 h after ativan otherwise.

can you use an empi select pain control system while on lithium.  :) just curious.  cause pain n nerve stimulation while on nervousness meds lithium :?

No problem: It will not turn you into a lithium battery:). They may be safely used together.

i was given prescription for hydroxyzine palmotate 25mg for anxiety. should i use that or dramamine (dimenhydrinate) for nausea and nervous stomach? i can barely eat, nausea bad

Stick w/ hydroxyzine: These medicines are very similar and both should work for your nausea.  Instead of mixing meds, just stick with the Hydroxyzine for both anxiety and nausea.  Also, you can try ginger containing products or vitamin b6 to help with your nausea.  Hope you feel better soon.

Discuss with your: Discuss with your doctor.  They will help you understand why they prescribed it and what are the alternatives.

Post nasal drip: If the cough is from post nasal drip, it will respond to an antihistamine such as hydroxyzine, if the cough is from something else, it will not respond to it. See your doctor to determine where the cough is coming from.
