chest pain: It might due to your t1-3 thoracic nerve root irritated if the pain is sharp, burning, radiating and the pain increased with skin irritation.  If the pain is dull, and you feel heavy of chest, you need see your family doctor to have cardiac check.

i had covid last year july. just before i got it i felt the left side of my chest/lung feeling slightly strained. to this day when i take a deep breathe in it hurts the left side of my chest/lung. is it a covid side effect or could it be a tumour?

COVID 19:  Can't say what the cause is. However, many people with COVID 19  end up with pulmonary scarring and lingering symptoms.  A "post- COVID 19" assessment would be prudent.

Rib cage: A common cause of sharp,fleeting chest pains, especially brought on with a deep breath, is a pinched intercostal nerve or muscle that runs between 2 ribs. The associated tenderness points toward a cause in the rib cage and not the lung or heart. Another possibility is inflammation,injury or other pathology in a rib itself. Your physician should be able to identify the problem after examining you.

Cough and chest pain: acid reflux can cause both cough and chest pain but there are other conditions that can cause these symptoms such as Emphysema, asthma, cardiac disease or valvular heart problems.  Given that you are over 50 yrs old, I would see your doctor about your symptoms to try to determine the cause

Costochondritis: It is also called chest wall pain and is a common cause of chest pain and it typical of what you are describing.  It does not cause problems other than pain.  If there is another problem like a lump in the area it could be caused by something else.

Un-likely cardiac: Based on your description, it is unlikely to be cardiac pain. It is most likely breast tissue or subcutaneous tenderness. So if worm compression or gentle heat improve the symptoms, if not have it checked please by healthcare professional .
