and... if there is weight loss with incresased appetite, that is due mainly to increased needs: fever/infection/ thyroid, diabetes out of control are most of the cause

Hunger: Hunger serves a valuable purpose to the body, reminding us when it is appropriate to eat. It would not be good to eliminate hunger from the body. The best way to reduce the effects of hunger  is to eat a diet consisting of an appropriate number of calories per day, divided up into several meals, taken at appropriate times. Consider consulting a nutritionist if you're having problems. Good luck.

A small snack: Is fine before sleep. Eating heavily before retiring to bed - can cause problems with sleep.

Many causes. C ur MD: Can be due to unrecognized empty calories, including alcohol, chewing gum, etc. May be due to depression, meds, systemic disease (long list of possibilities), can be due to organic problems with stomach, pancreas, liver, etc.
Symptoms like anorexia (loss of appetite), situphobia (fear of eating-usually because of inducing symptoms), and early satiety (get full fast) should be evaluated.

Try eating small: Balanced healthy low fat snacks every 2-4 hrs (~150-200 kcals). Sometimes, as one eats, less, the hunger signal gets '.Lost'. I am assuming you don't have problems w your sense of smell, sinusitis, abdominal pain, nausea, etc. Also try increasing your daily exercise - e.g. A daily vigorous 30 min walk, etc, preferably outdoors. Finally, any chance you have some depression &/or anxiety going on?

Can you clarify?: Most of us feel hunger only when we really need to eat, and that depends on how much we've eaten recently. If you have a reasonably healthy weight and are physically fit, then stop worrying about not feeling hungry, and don't let somebody's superstition tell you when you should. Be glad you don't feel compelled to eat when you're not actually hungry; your physician can be your guide here.

Your body needs: To adjust to larger food intake.  Be sure to tell your doc about this.  Nourishing soups and salads are a good place to start and then build up to more solid foods.  Peace and good health.
