im reading conflicting information about passing hsv 1 to others through inanimate objects. how much should i be sanitizing things? what is best to use for surfaces? i feel like it is not safe to touch my child?

: The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists states that the herpes simplex virus may be able to live on surfaces for up to a few hours outside of the body. 
However, if the skin is intact your child will not get the virus.
Cleaning with Chlorine solution is always effective.

i tested positive for hsv-1 a year ago and got my first cold sores today. theyre extremely small and mild. i accidentally touched the zovirax i applied on top then touched pubic area (above clitoris). i sanitized it 5 later. will i get genital hsv?

: You might but you already have HSV if that is what is causing the cold sores.  Discuss with Drs down there. Trust you were in the floods.

Probably not herpes: Herpes doesn't cause this sort of problem, especially when it lasts several months. This sounds like garden variety fungal (yeast) or nonspecific balanitis, very common in uncircumcised men. Probably not caused by hand sanitizer, even if that was just before the problem started. Retract foreskin and wash 2x daily w/ soap &amp; water. See a dermatologist if it continues after that.
