LOTS!: Stroke, death, bleeding, infection , kidney failure, etc.  However the incidence of these things is relatively low for someone of your age.  The older we get the higher the incidence of such risks.

This is very common: After bypass surgery anxiety is very common. This is often due actually to depression. In some cases bypass surgery can unveil early dementia. I would recommend treatment with an ssri initially to see if this helps. Sertraline or escitalopram work well for anxiety. I would avoid benzodiazepines at all cost. Do not use ativan, xanax (alprazolam) or valium type medications to treat this anxiety.

Depends on YOU.: First, do you have a strong family history? If so, then you need to do all those "lifestyle" things like eat right, exercise, control your cholesterol, etc., and of course have regular doctor visits and do what your doctor tells you! second, do you do anything now that might contribute to recurrent heart disease, like smoke, hold in stress, etc? Stop! these things will maximize the durability!

CABG: coughing up blood could mean he had some tracheal damage from the endotracheal tube during surgery but there are also other possiblilities. He should get in touch with his physician and let his doc decide what to do.

: No. He has to be examined to find cause- which may or may not be related to the vein removed- usually taking a vein from there does not cause pain later. Hope he feels better

Risks of CABG: Main risks include wound infection, post op pneumonia, post or peri operative heart attack, stroke, requirement for blood transfusion, transient memory loss or dementia, kidney dysfunction and positioning injuries.  A lot of items but keep in mind all of these are very low and as with any surgery, a risk/benefit analysis is important to consider.

Yes but also if not: Open heart cardiac bypass surgery has many potential risks during the surgery and during recovery- rhythm problems, fluid buildup around heart/in lung cavities, infection, etc.  These potential problems are monitored closely and treated if they occur.
 The risk of severe obstructive coronary artery disease (requiring bypass sugery) is also very significant and life threatening if not treated.
