i completely emptied myself out last tuesday, but now i'm constipated again and i'm afraid to use an enema or to go by myself.

Constipation.: Sounds like you may need something to help keep you regular.  Regular adequate fluid intake is key in your age group for preventing constipation. Secondarily, daily stool softeners may help. Consider dioctyl sodium succinate or a similar med from your pharmacy - talk to the pharmacist or to your doc.

Yes: An enema, when necessary, is safe during pregnancy.

can ileus happen randomly to a healthy adult. what are ways to relieve such a condition. is it safe to use an enema while you have untreated ileus?

Accepted Answer

No: This does not occur in healthy people.  Suggest that you consult a gastroenterologist.   As for enema, this answer is no and even if you try it, it would not reach the ileum any way and may potentially cause damage to your bowel.

Before self-treating: Doctors define constipation as stools less frequently than once every 3-4 days. Patients feel they are "constipated" when passing hard or small volume stool, or they feel full &amp; bloated. Had an x-ray to show you're not blocked?  We don't know if your gut is sluggish or your rectum works correctly--these can be tested for (sitz marker study ; anal manometry, respectively).  See a GI specialist.

do i need to use an enema to  before i go to the doctor for an anoscopy or proctoscopy?  won't that help the doctor see better?

Probably not: They aren't really looking up very far. As long you don't feel that you have any stool right in the rectum, you don't need to do an enema.

in the shower i put a lot of bath & body works body wash on my finger & slowly stuck it inside my anus trying to clean it it burned for about 5 minutes then stopped do i need to use an enema asap to clean out any remaining soap? or can i leave it be?

: Leave it alone. The more you mess with it the worse you will make it.
For healthy diet: http://www.choosemyplate.gov/., exercise 30 minutes/day, drink enough water daily so your urine is mostly colorless, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol weed or street drugs.

getting a mri w/ contrast on abdomen & pelvis. the radiologist office said to use an enema before exam but i dont think its necessary. thoughts?

Unusual: I have never seen an enema recommended as part of the prep for an mri of the abdomen and pelvis with contrast. Usually you only fast for 4 hours before the test. Double check with the radiologist.

Staying hydrated: while traveling could mean u can forget about those enemas entirely. It's quite common to become dehydrated and therefore at risk for being constipated while traveling. Try to drink alot of water, eat fruits/veggies with fiber, &amp; try to move around to keep the body as regular as possible. Enemas are really the last resort of constipation treatment and hope u can find an easier way to deal with it.
