If it happens: Infrequently, it is not an eating disorder. If it happens on a regular basis, it would be cause for concern. Pay attention. If you are avoiding meals to try to lose weight, this is not a good tactic and may lead you on the path to a full blown eating disorder. Nip the problem in the bud ; talk to someone if you are concerned.

Not an eating dis.: This is not an eating disorder as long as you are not binging, gaining weight, obese, anorexic, or purging. However, it is not a wise way to eat. The amount of weight that we retain at any meal is directly proportional to how large of an Insulin curve the meal causes. It is well-known that one large meal a day causes a huge spike in the insulin. This causes the body to retain more weight per calorie consumed than if the same number of calories were consumed during six small meals with small Insulin peaks. Best wishes.

Find a nutritionist!: That's a tough question! your best bet is to meet with a nutritionist who is trained in eating disorders.  It depends what eating disorder behaviors you had and your metabolism, current weight, etc so someone should make a personalized meal plan for you!

It does not cause: An eating disorder per se. It would take a full psychiatric evaluation by an eating disorder specialist to determine if you actually have an eating disorder. Certainly however consuming too many calories of chocolate can be very filling and make it difficult for you to eat a normal meal. Please set up an appointment with a psychiatrist if you have any further concerns about this or if you find that you are gaining excessive weight or losing excessive weight or if you start vomiting after you eat. Probably not: Hard to know but it is good that you are identifying the problem early. Why do you skip meals? Are you not hungry or nauseated? Are you skipping to control weight? Do people think you are too thin even though you feel too heavy? It would be worth discussing this issue with a trusted adult, parent, school nurse, physician and get some advice on how to move forward. Good luck!

See your physician: Many things can interfere with appetite, including chronic depression, loneliness, and anxiety.  If you're having difficulty enjoying life in general, this makes depression more likely.  Substance abuse can also affect appetite.  Please see your physician for a thorough health review and exam, so you can get the specific help you need.

Hard to say: Without knowing the full details of how he eats in both places. When he is with you, try having meals together sitting down. Make the meal a zone of discussion rather than a battleground. Teens often make poor choices when eating. Living in two households with different rules can make this a challenge. Dialogue with his mom if you can.
