See Derm: Irritant Contact Dermatitis or even a partial thickness burn would not last several months. Another diagnosis is likely. Please see a board certified dermatologist immediately for a full history, exam, and possibly a biopsy. Good luck.

i got a chemical burn from drain cleaner splashing on my lip 2 days ago. it's crusted over with a yellowish scab, is this normal and how do i treat?

2 days late: The most important step was to irrigate the splash with a lot of clean water. Now your body is going thru a healing phase where the crusting will occur. Just keep a look out for signs of infection, in which case antibiotics will be needed. Do not pick on it, the result will only be worse. You can put some cream on it to keep it from drying out and itching.

: If there is raw skin/open wound, apply a triple antibiotic ointment, available over the counter, to prevent/treat bacterial infection. Keep the area clean and dry. If you get fever it would be imperative to see a doctor.

Skin irritation: This product is not strong enough to cause a chemical burn but it can cause skin irritation in those with sensitive skin.  Stop using the product, keep the area moist with eucerin sensitive skin lotion, and consider topical 1% Hydrocortisone cream otc.  If no improvement, see a dermatologist.

Chemical burn: You must please start with an exam for your Primary care doctor. Your doctor will carefully see how things are going and determine if the doctor can take care of the burn or whether you should go to a specialist.
