Termed myokymia: Twitching of the lid is common in the middle years.  It is random and not precipitated by any known pathology.  Mostly it is subtle and you can feel it but others cannot see it.  Rubbing the twitching lid commonly stops it.  Some think extra calcium and magnesium cut down the incidence.  Be assured that it is benign and will not harm the eye or vision.

Movement disorder?: Depends upon pattern of twitching.  For example, Gilles de la Tourette may cause sudden tic like motions, and myoclonus could be violent sudden jerk.  Localized twitches called myokymia can affect eyelids and face.  May be secondary to brain and brainstem irritation, but might also be local secondary to muscle activity, fasciculations.

Different causes: Your twitching could be benign fasciculations and these many times happen from being overworked or too stressed out.  If other symptoms are present such as weakness or increased tone of extremities then more serious conditions should be entertained such as ALS, polio, or other anterior horn cell disease process. Artificial tears: Eyelid twitching is usually the result of drying of the eyes, allergy, or air polutants. Cool compresses will help. Artificial tears will help lubricate the eyes. If you think it's allergy there will be reddening of the eyes. For allergy try Optivar or Zaditor (ketotifen) drops from the drug store.

Myoclonus: This sudden jerking movement and or twitching body movements while falling sleep are quite normal and are known as myoclonic physiological jerking. Good sign: Sexual excitement creates a great deal of nervous triggering in the body which is part of the delight.  In you case apparently the lid nerves fire a little and the lids twitch.  I assume you are masturbating privately so noone else is observing this.  So what is the problem?  It is not harmful.

Duration. :  Spasms occur when a muscle tightens up and does not relax for a long period of time. A calf cramp would be an example of a muscle spasm.  They tend to last much longer than a twitch which is usuall brief.
 Twitching would be when the muscle fires briefly  like blinking your eye.  Multiple twitches in succession can feel like the muscle is vibrating.
