can you tell me the difference between a muscle spasms verses twitching?

1 doctor answer
Dr. Timothy Powers
21 years experience Orthopedic Spine Surgery
Duration. : Spasms occur when a muscle tightens up and does not relax for a long period of time. A calf cramp would be an example of a muscle spasm. They tend to last much longer than a twitch which is usuall brief. Twitching would be when the muscle fires briefly like blinking your eye. Multiple twitches in succession can feel like the muscle is vibrating.
