SEE MD NOW: He could have a mouth injury or ulcer causing bleeding but both should stop fairly quickly in less than 5 minutes.  You need to see his pediatrician or go to er if bleeding is active.  If tiny streaks of blood in saliva, try letting him suck on popsicle to stop the bleeding.  ? Any bleeding disorders in the family?

Get checked: Most commonly bleeding comes from infected gums.  How long has it been since your last cleaning?  What medications do you take?  It is  possible you should have a cleaning under the gums but your teeth are being cleaned only above the gums.  Brush teeth, gums, tongue.  Floss, rinse with diluted salt water.  Get a cleaning.

Bleeding in mouth: Prolonged pressure with gauze (yes, even up to 15 minutes) should stop the bleeding.  Otherwise please call your dentist or primary doctor.

Post-ext bleeding: Fold a 2"x2" gauze pad into quarters. Place over extraction site and apply gentle pressure constantly for 20 minutes. Repeat if necessary. If still bleeding wrap a tea bag in gauze, place over extraction site, apply gentle pressure again for 20 minutes. If still bleeding after the 1 hour exercise, call your Dentist.

It should stop: Any bumps on a person's skin that bleed when popped, usually stop bleeding in less than 10 minutes if direct pressure is put on the spot. A person can use a tissue, gauze, or paper towel. A spot can bleed longer if the person keeps taking pressure off the spot, to look at it. After bleeding stops, a spot may ooze a little, for a few hours. A doctor can evaluate if bleeding doesn't stop.

The : The concern is how fast the bleeding stops.  A small amount of bleeding is of no concern. Generally, pressure is the way to stop bleeding.  The donor site on the roof of the mouth will not be harmed by pressure, if the recipient site is the issue, don't touch it without talking to your dentist.

Ice &amp; Ibuprofen: Get ice on it right now - 10 minutes on / 10 off for a few hours. Take ibuprofen (400 mg) 3 - 4 times /day for the next 1-2 days. All to keep the swelling down. See your Dentist tomorrow to check the tooth clinically and with an x-ray image to be sure it is OK - at least for right now. Crushed ice in a baggie or frozen peas work well. Expect to be swollen and possibly bruised. Good Luck.

can a root canal stop gum bleeding on all my gums? for quite a few years, even when flossing daily, my gums, all over my mouth, bled quite easily. it only took 1 or 2 days of missed flossing for bleeding to become worse?
