Achilles rupture: This is a difficult question to answer without knowing more about the history and why you are looking for a third option. In the healthy patient, i wouldn't recommend to a patient not have their achilles tendon repaired surgically or conservatively treated with casting. Patients who are not surgical candidates and do not or can not heal via casting require a brace to assist in gait.

Yes: It is not uncommon to experience some cramping or muscle spasms in the calf after an achilles repair.  Typically, these symptoms resolve after a week or 2.
