Pigment &amp;/or shadow: Pimples result in a breakdown of the skin and cause a scar. Any scar can get hyperpigmented, i.e. darker, for six months and sunscreen of spf 15 or greater helps to protect against the pigment changes. Chemical lightners help.The scar can also have a depression from the plane of the surrounding skin. When light reflects off of the scar, it appears darker &amp; resurfacing methods help to even scar.

Pores Clog: Acne appears when a pore in your skin gets clogged. Normally dead cells rise to the surface, but sometimes sebum ( an oil that keeps skin from drying out) can cause the dead skin cells to stick together inside the pore becoming trapped. If topical benzoyl peroxide as tolerated (try 5% 2x/day) hasn't cleared the pimples in 2 weeks, get with your personal physician for prescription-strength rx. The post-inflammatory pigment fades on its on after several weeks, or try hydroquinone sparingly.
