i was prescribed medrol dose pak for cervical pain with headaches. will this also help with my tmj symptoms? how long will the pain relief last after i finish the prescription? thanks, merry christmas!

Medrol: Cortisone will reduce inflammation/pain for as long as you take it . Does not cure, it masks symptoms. Will help with pain everywhere, its doesn't have anatomic specificity. See your Dentist about TMJ for diagnosis of cause of your joint dyscrasia and appropriate treatment or referral.

hi, for the past year, every day i wake up with a pressure headache and l.side facial numbness. botax, migraine med,aimovig, card surgery nothing has helped. for tmj i wear mouth guard and still no relief. please tell me what's the cause. thanks?

Second opinion: Not clearly feasible to pin down a precise diagnosis based upon your description, but it appears that interventions have been fruitless so far.  Find a new neurologist, hopefully a headache specialist, consider a completely new approach.  (Incidently, biofeedback and acupuncture have provided help for some.)

Unlikely one issue: Sinus/facial discomfort would be common to all three. Otherwise, you'd have to have more than one of the proposed causes. TMJ technically refers to the actual jaw joint, which can become inflamed and spawn localized or referred pain and clicking, but unlikely clear runny nose. You didn't mention migraine variant, which could possibly be triggered by TMJ. Get checked out.

Yes but...: The same symptoms can be caused by a long list of other possibilities. I recommend that you see your physician for an evaluation. If you have been diagnosed or suspect tmd	mj, also see your dentist for an evaluation.

Dangerous, no: But can become debilitating.  Headache may be result, not cause of your joint dysfunction.  Occlusal Orthotic (night guard), occlusion correction (braces), occlusal adjustment (reshaping), exercises, warm compresses, physical therapy, etc., may all be helpful.  Ask your Dentist for help or referral.

Possibly: Not a first step though. I would suggest starting with an exam by a dentist and possibly a referral to a specialist.

TMJ symptoms: Can be multifactorial.  If you clench, grind, have jaw pain, inability to open wide ....  Then it is possible that your headaches are TMJ related.  In any event, if you feel it might be TMJ related, go see a dentist.  A trip to the er is not the answer.  Hope this helps.

Sometimes really bad: Tmj can cause severe headaches, usually on the side of the head or the side of the face or jaw. However, headaches can also be caused by more serious things, so you should probably have them checked out by a doctor. The good news is that, if your headaches are caused by TMJ problems, then treating the TMJ problem will often relieve the headaches.
