Chest tightness: I assume that the patient is an insulin dependent diabetic. If the blood sugar drops too low adrenalin can be released and cardiac discomfort could result if the patient has known or unrecognized coronary artery disease. This symptom should be reported to the patient's physician or if chest distress is ongoing the patient should be transported to the hospital emergency room for immediate evaluatio

Yes, but: Just because you take Xanax (alprazolam) and the pain goes away doesn't mean that it "was relieved by xanax".  Is it related to exertion? Does it make you short of breath? Do you have diabetes or smoke? High blood pressure, high cholesterol, or family hx of premature disease? What is your age? You see, there are many factors to consider. Why not discuss it with your family doctor?

Xanax (alprazolam)?: You're implying, of course, by noting that Xanax (alprazolam) helps that your chest  tightness is anxiety related. Maybe so. But, do you have cardiac risk factors? Your age is important. If the tightness is reproduced by exertion and relieved by rest, you should see your doctor. If it's either very brief (seconds) or very long (hours), it's probably not your heart.

Hard to say.: Psychogenic causes can never be completely ruled out. I would suggest starting with a trip to your primary doctor and see if they are concerned about any type of cardio or pulmonary problem. Peace of mind is worth a lot.

Maybe two things: Dust can cause chest tightness in someone with asthma. Cold can also trigger asthma. The sour taste may indicate reflux all the way to the mouth. Reflux also can cause chest pain or pain between the shoulder blades. Reflux can trigger asthma symptoms. First get help from a doc separating the issues. For reflux start an antacid and avoid heavy greasy food and late dinner. There are surgical options
