: Anytime one has problems persisting after his surgery, particularly if they are not improving, the first course should be to the surgery to perform the procedure. It is important to make sure there are no complications of the surgery. They can also check to see whether you have a urinary tract infection or some other obvious cause of the symptoms. Good luck.

Sorry: Gas pains are normal after any laparoscopic surgery. We need to fill the belly with gas do we have room to work. Most of the gas pains you are feeling are outside the intestine and can't be passed from below. Best thing is to take your pain medication and get up and walk around. This will help your body break up the gas and reabsorb it.

had open abdominal surgery 2 months ago on artery. since then, caused changes in gi system.was normalizing, but now for the past 2 weeks, have had debilitating gas pains.  haven't changed my diet.  common this long after abd surgery?

Depends: See your surgeon. Any “ severe “ pain should be evaluated immediately (ER)   Bu if not that bad see your surgeon for workup. Bowel blockage or decreased blood flow to bowel could hive you severe pain

Endoscopic surgery??: Surgeons will add gas to the area to help visualize the site better.  The gas will go away on it's own over time.  I have not heard of any way to speed up the process.  If you mean gas in the stomach, just take some antacids or gas-x.

Trapped Gas: The best way to get rid of "trapped gas" after surgery is to get up often and to walk around. Otherwise, an over the counter medication such as simethicone would likely help.

What is GA?: If you were asking whether the surgery caused the hives or the opiate in the pain medication, the probability is tilted towards the pain medication.  NSAID can cause hives also.

Yes: Drink lots of fluid, walk frequently and reduce the use of prescription pain meds will help.  If not better in a few days, try stool softener.  As always, remember to call your surgeon to report your concerns.

Possible: Abdominal symptoms after major surgery may be caused by post op pain meds leading to constipation.  Since other causes may exist, you should check with your surgeon or primary doctor about continuing issues.

Simethicone: Over the counter simethicone (gas - x) is safe in pregnancy.  I would start there.

Warm compresses: A heating pad or a warm bath is the best remedy for cramps caused by gas. You can also try over the counter remedies such as gas-x and beano if the problem seems to be food-related. If these remedies don't improve your symptoms, see your doctor.
