Yes: Try lying on your left side to allow the baby to not rest on the inferior vena cava (blood vessel) that returns blood from your lower legs back to your heart.

Count the calories: Use breastfeeding to burn up stored calories. One can get her pre-pregnancy weight back, and work out with weights to get in great shape again, but cannot truly get her "pre-pregnancy" body back. That is because a pre-pregnancy body is a different stage in a woman's life than a post-pregnancy body. Her primary care doctor can check for a hormonal imbalance, and check the foot issue too.

YES: Lower extremity edema or swelling is very common in the latter half or pregnancy.  Severe lower extremity swelling and/or swelling of the upper extremities or face, or unilateral lower extremity swelling can be a concern and may require evaluation by your OB provider.

Swollen ft s/p birth: Likely from the pregnancy you have venous insufficiency due to the weight of the babies . This is not uncommon after birth. Do you have visible varicose veins? That would be  a similar process. Would check you blood pressure , chec kcreatinien and renal ( kidney function) make sure it has returned to  normal, limit salt intake , discuss use of supportive hose with your doctor. F/u/ w/ doc

Call your doctor: I suggest you let your doctor be aware of the swelling and discomfort in your foot and ankle. You should be evaluated for a blood clot.

If unilateral - DVT?: While it is common to have swollen lower extremities postpartum as fluid shifts occur after delivery, this is usually bilateral.  If the swelling is unilateral and/or accompanied by pain, would recommend seeking evaluation to confirm not a deep vein thrombosis of the lower extremity, which has potential serious medical complications (e.g. Pulmonary embolus).

Ultrasound and exam: This could simply be a muscular issue, but with the location and the numbness, I feel like this needs further evaluation. An appropriate exam would likely include not only an ultrasound to rule out a blood clot but also a good hands on physical exam of pulses in both feet and evaluation of sensation in feet. Edema: Try elevating the legs and feet above the level of your heart for 15 minutes three or four times a day. Try support hose as well. Decreasing salt intake can help.
