Call your doctor: I suggest you let your doctor be aware of the swelling and discomfort in your foot and ankle. You should be evaluated for a blood clot.

If unilateral - DVT?: While it is common to have swollen lower extremities postpartum as fluid shifts occur after delivery, this is usually bilateral.  If the swelling is unilateral and/or accompanied by pain, would recommend seeking evaluation to confirm not a deep vein thrombosis of the lower extremity, which has potential serious medical complications (e.g. Pulmonary embolus).

Swelling: Swelling in the feet is a common problem of pregnancy. Physicians used to associate it with pre-eclampsia, but it occurs in too many women who don't have pre-eclampsia to be a sign of pre-eclampsia. It's probably caused by the increased blood volume and changes in the blood biochemistry that occur during pregnancy.

Labour type?: How did you deliver?  Cesarean?  Vaginal deliver?  It may play a role sometimes due to stirrups against the feet in vaginal delivery.  Other than that, swelling can happen for a number of reasons but likely the stress from delivery and added weight (although not noticed during pregnancy) caused the swollen ankles.

Very common : Lots of people have swollen feet when pregnant. If you have a blood pressure greater than 140/90, call your doc. Otherwise put your feet up, think about getting compression stockings.

Swelling Pregnant: Yes. All extremities can be swollen late in pregnancy. This is normal.

Imaging: If you are not convinced that the low bhcg rules out pregnancy, see your doctor for an ultrasound examination of the pelvis.

Count the calories: Use breastfeeding to burn up stored calories. One can get her pre-pregnancy weight back, and work out with weights to get in great shape again, but cannot truly get her "pre-pregnancy" body back. That is because a pre-pregnancy body is a different stage in a woman's life than a post-pregnancy body. Her primary care doctor can check for a hormonal imbalance, and check the foot issue too.

Time: It takes awhile for all the excess water that accumulates in your tissues during pregnancy to leave the body.  Typically the majority of the swelling should be gone in 3 weeks.  Exercise can help.  Compression stockings and garmets can help a women feel better as well.  Some gals take epsom salt baths as well.
