: The cracking noise when moving your wrists and finger joints is a common phenomenon, it is usually harmless. The sound is caused by the release of gas bubbles that form in the synovial lubricating fluid. When moving pressure inside joints changes, causing the bursting bubbles to make a popping sound. Pain or swelling, could mean an underlying condition such as arthritis or ligament damage.

i have been eating badly and lots of sugar for the past 2 weeks. also picked up an extra 10kgs since stopping smoking 8 months ago and i am struggling now to loose it. the problem now is that both my shoulder and finger joints are stiff. diabetes?

Not necessarily: To diagnose diabetes your doctor would need to test your blood glucose and/or A1c level. It is good that you quit smoking. Losing weight is not easy and it gets harder with increasing age. Joining a group like weight watchers may help.
Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

Need evaluation: This may be a form of inflammatory arthritis and should be evaluated by a physician. There are plenty of treatments for this besides nsaids.

Swelling from break: The fracture causes inflammation, which impedes the normal flow of lymph from the hand to the arm and then into the central veins. Because of this slowdown, your fingers are a little swollen and feel stiff.

Elevating your arm, which gives the flow a boost from gravity, might help.

This is temporary, don't worry.
