Developmental delay: The sooner interventions happen for this little guy the better the chances of maximizing his potential. Please continue to have him followed by his doctors and see a specialist in child psychology and early intervention. Speech therapy: In kids the most likely reason why the voice is abnormal is "overuse" or "improper use". The voice is best when powered by abdominal breathing and relaxation in the neck. All too often kids tense their necks  when they speak causing tension in the voice box and leading to hoarseness. A speech therapist could be helpful in determining if that is your sons cause.

Depend on how long s: Voice changes expected following any surgical procedure, requiring general anesthesia ، this usually result from throat and laryngeal irritation from anesthesia tube (endotracheal tube), usually transient and last few days.                 In regard to thyroid surgery, specifically there is always risk of laryngeal nerve injury, which result in voice changes, this can be permanent or temporary.

Is it persistent: If it is more then few weeks since thyroid surgery، recommend examination of voice box، return to your surgeon/otolaryngologist for such evaluation.

Depends : If it has been only a few days give it some time, if it has been a week or more you need to see an ENT doctor for a fiberoptic laryngoscopy. This in office procedure will look at your vocal cords and determine exactly what is going on.

Laryngitis: You have laryngitis causes usually by an infection or trauma. Rest your voice , talk only when necessary and avoid exerting your vocal cords such as yelling,singing etc Adequate fluid intake. Warm salt water gargle.  Healthy diet and rest
