Don't hide, get help: Jaundice in the setting of chronic liver disease is serious stuff. Either there has been an acute insult to an already compromised liver, or liver failure is progressing. Cholestasis associated with jaundice may mean a blocked bile duct, altered blood flow to &/or away from the liver, or worsening liver disease. In all cases, you need medical attention soon & please stay clear of drinking alcohol.

Quite a few: When cirrhosis is well established patients develop portal hypertension (high pressure in the veins in stomach, spleen, and intestines) and blood is shunted away from the liver.  Patients then develop ascites (fluid build up in abdomen), enlarged spleen and low platelet count, encephalopathy (confusion), and varices (enlarged veins inside stomach and esophagus) which can lead to massive bleeding.

Very advanced: If your eye is yellow the bilirubin is not that high and liver disease may be mild.  It even is seen in hereditary anemias without liver disease.  But if your skin is also yellow then the bilirubin is very high and liver disease is advanced.  Must see your GI specialist.

Jaundice,,,: This is apparently jaundice and is a symptom of liver disease, not just cirrhosis.  It's a result of bile backing up into the blood and body tissues.  Please see your doctor as soon as you can to get examined and see what, if anything, can be done to help this.  Best of luck.

my grandpa had hep c as a teen apparently they didnt know and he got cirrhosis at 47 about and died when he immigrated to america. when at 47 came out of jail being there some time he was all yellow. is he possible he got hep c again or coincidence?

: Sorry to hear about your grandfather. People do not catch hepatitis C a second time. The first infection became chronic and gradually destroyed his liver. He was jaundiced (yellow) at the end because of progressing liver failure -- not because of a new infection. This is the normal course of events when hepatitis B or C causes severe liver damage.

Jaundice?: In the context you described, this could mean that his liver function has worsened and his bilirubin is now higher. He needs to see his doctor right away for blood testing and a liver ultrasound.  Cirrhosis is something that can progress.

Cirrhosis: You should abstain from alcohol completely to avoid worsening of cirrhosis. For jaundice to occur the bilirubin has to be at least 4. The presence of jaundice in a patient with cirrhosis is a poor sign as is ascites. You must take your condition very seriously. I trust you're under the care of a gastroenterologist or hepatologist.

13 years ago i was diagnosed with cirrhosis. before then, my whole life, my body temperature was 98.6. since then its 96.7. why is this? and if i feel bad and check my temperature, would a temperature of lets say, 97.5 mean i have a fever?

: No, a temperature above 100.4°F would still be considered a fever, even if you feel that your usual body temperature is lower than usual. Good luck.
