Herpes: Yes, you can still have herpes outbreak while on valtrex. Suppressive therapy may lessen the amounts of outbreaks and shedding of the virus though.

Herpes Testing: All sexually active adults should know their herpes status with a blood test. Regardless of your boyfriend's history you should already know if you have been exposed to herpes.  90% of those exposed do not have sores or outbreaks and can still be contagious.  74% of americans have the 'oral' or herpes type one and 25% o;f americans have the 'genital' or herpes type two virus.

No : Herpes 1 and 2 are both lifelong infections. The acute antibodies will return to normal but there are other antibodies that will always be elevated. The virus remains in your system. For some people the initial outbreak is only infection but others can have recurrent outbreaks. This is true of oral and genital lesions. Stress and weakened immune system can increase outbreaks but meds will treat.

Herpes simplex: As a general rule valacyclovir usually modifies the frequency and severity of outbreaks of genital herpes, but this is not invariable and in some patients may not have any appreciable effect.

i had a hsv2 outbreak and took valtrex for three days. it healed but i am worried it has left a scar. is this possible? i have had this for 12 years and rarely get outbreaks. if i do they last for 10 days but have never left a scar. is it normal?

: Scars occur when the skin or mucuc membrane has been disrupted to a large degree and the healing forms new tissue to fill in the defect. Was your outbreak particularly bad? I would continue to cover the area with a moisturizing, emollient cover- aquaphor, vaseline and give it time to properly heal. Most scars reshape and fade over time.

See Derm: Herpes is more likely to occur in the lip area. If you have mouth ulcers you should see a dermatologist for further evaluation to determine other etiologies.

NoThey are totally : Different medications expired Valtrex (valacyclovir) might be just   Bit less potent but is probably still good . It is the antiviral medicAtion. The  gabapentin was just for the pain
