You may have: tinnitus however your symptoms are more consistent with wax build up in the ears. Have your health care provider clean out your ears or use a product like Debrox at home.

i have mild tinnitus, but some days i wake up with really loud ringing in my ears. its not from a noisy environment. seems to correlate to poor sleep, but not always. today they are howling. no meds last night. suggestions? to control or minimize?

SEVERAL OPTIONS: Tinnitus is a tough one. No clear treatment if it is primary so look for any causes. Do you do a lot of aspirin? Are you exposed to loud sounds? Try to make sue that you get rest, eat healthy , and exercise. See a physician to evaluate for tinnitus and Meniers's Disease.

why do my ears ring so much more after work? i have mild tinnitus and im an or nurse. its never loud or noisy at work, but when driving home from work the ringing seems 10x as bad, like leaving a rock concert without ear plugs. stress, maybe?

Tinnitus: Could be due to environmental noises, as well as stress. You should have a hearing test to evaluate your inner ear.

See a doc: If you have tinnitus and your eardrums are red it may very well be that there is an ear infection or possibly there was trauma to the ear.  In any event a  trip to the doc is warranted for evaluation and determination if you need antibiotics or other treatment.

Complicated: Causes of tinnitus are complicated. It has to do with the inner ear and the ossicles and nerves. You are a bit young to have the tinnitus. It may improve over time.
Ibuprofen and other non-steroidals can cause tinnitus-consider a trial of stopping the ibuprofen.

No: Tinnitus is a central problem secondary to increased electrical activity from the auditory nervous system.  There is no medical therapy for this problem.  The earbuds (please explain) are not producing the tinnitus.  What exactly do you mean by ear buds and perhaps i can give you a more specific answer.  If there is no hearing loss and the tinnitus is slight, i would not do anything.

I suggest you have an audiological valuation done to see where things stand with your hearing and to discuss your tinnitus. Other causes of tinnitus include high blood pressure excessive use of aspirin and other medications rarely is it due to nerve tumors at your age

Either: Tinnitus is usually a ringing noise but the term can be applied to any noise heard in the absence of external stimuli. Many people can hear blood flowing in their head especially if middle ear problems are present.
