Occasional: Conjunctivitis is an infection of the lining of the eye.  It is usually of viral origin, but in trauma, pre-existing surgery or pediatric age group, might also be bacterial.  In adults it tends to occur in "bunches" related to exposure to a case which can then spread.  If you develop this condition, see your ophthalmologist for diagnosis and treatment.

Allergic vs viral vs: Depends upon cause of conjunctivitis which just means inflammation of conjunctiva. If allergic, it will resolve once you get away from allergens. If viral, it will go away on its own. If chemical, you need to rinse out chemical. If bacterial, you'll need some antibiotics. Go see your family doc, optometrist or ophthalmologist to determine which is which & get get appropriate treatment.

Sort of: You can catch conjunctivitis from using a pillow that has been exposed to conjunctivitis.  You can also get an allergic reaction that causes a red, itchy eye from a pillow, especially a feather pillow.

Dry eyes!: Sounds like chronic dry eyes and/or allergies.  No cure, but you can start with artificial tears routinely (one drop 4 times a day every day), oral omega-3's, and warm compresses.  Next, medicated drops (restasis, mild steroid drops, NSAID drops) or punctal occlusion may be helpful.   It may take months to start seeing improvement, but stay with treatment.

Not possible: True conjunctivitis is a viral infection which typically lasts 3-10 days depending upon the strain.  There is no one day treatment or cure.  (Remember Costas, the TV sports announcer got this condition while covering the olympics and had to go off the air - with all his money and connections, he had to wait it out).  An ophthalmologist can tell you if it is this or something else.
