i have diagnoses of pcos all symptoms included. should i take combo birth control pill or only progesterone? never tried provera, (medroxyprogesterone) will it be better for me?

Androgenic: Provera (medroxyprogesterone) is a Progesterone which gets converted to weak androgens and can further complicate pcos. The androgens produced by the ovaries will not be suppressed by Progesterone alone. Combination ocp's are preferable, certain ones are better than others. A gynecologist or endocrinologist are good resources.

There are many: different formulations for birth control that you could use for PCOS.  The most suitable ones are those with very low estrogen and moderate amounts of progestin. PCOS: bleeding: PCOS is treated with oral bcp's, and the bleeding most frequently associated with oral bcp's comes from not taking them punctually, since today's pills contain very low amounts of hormones.  Take the active pills in the evening, no more than an hour later than the previous day's active pill. If the bleeding continues, stop the pill, wait five days, and start a new pack, staying punctual.

can you take prometrium 200 mg safely during ovulation phase to be able to get a period with pcos until you reach menopause? i truly do not tolerate the birth control pill?

: It is difficult to use "ovulation phase" of a menstrual cycle with documented "PCOS", as ovulation is usually absent.    Prometrium 200mg for 5 days and then stopping will usually precipitate bleeding from degenerating endometrial tissue, which can assist in   prevention of cytologic changes in endometrium which precede endometrial cancer.  Consult your GYN for appropriate intervals.

No single one better: All bcp help with symptoms of pcos.  The differences between different pills is minimal and mostly theoretical.  The more important one is just the one that doesn't cause irregular bleeding or any other adverse side effects.

No: Unless you desire to get pregnatn i don't recommend that you stop your bcp's.  Unless you are having side effects or there is another reason for stoping them.  I would discuss this issue with your gyn.  Whty do you want to stop?  Do you want to get pregnant?  Other methods of treatment for pcos? Etc etc.

Depends: It depends on a lot of things like which symptoms you are trying to control and your health history. Pills are probably the most used but you should talk to your doctor about your options.

GYN: Your own GYN would be the best person to provide you the information. Regardless the choice would not be changed because of your penicillin allergy since they are unrelated issues.

Doctor: Unfortunately i suggest think you probably talk to the doctor that prescribed the metformin in the first place. If  you have not seen the doctor recently consider seeing somebody so that they can check and review all lab work.

Birth control: pills do not TREAT PCOS, they only mask the irregular periods. To actually treat the basic metabolic problem of insulin resistance you need diet, exercise, weight loss and many women improve with metformin. Other drugs are useful in certain situations.
