The scalp may also become itchy. Mild patches of flaky skin may also develop on the face.

No, sorry: Dandruff is caused by an overpopulation/overgrowth of a yeast that lives on everyone's scalp.  For whatever reason, your body is prone to allowing this yeast to over grow on your scalp which causes dandruff (seborrheic dermatitis).  Sometimes the rash extends to involve the face/ears/neck/chest.  It can only be controlled, not cured.

Apply coconut oil mixed with 2 tablespoons of honey to the scalp and hair, cover with a shower cap for 1-2 hours. Then apply shampoo and create a lather before adding water, this will help get the oil out without leaving your hair sticky and oily. Your hair will also have a nice shine.

DANDRUFF: ANSWERS TO DANDRUFF IS PROPER SHAMPOOING, FREQUENT SHAMPOOING, AND SHAMPOOING WITH THE PROPER SHAMPOO.
IF POSSIBLE I RECOMMEND DAILY SHAMPOOING FOR AT LEAST TEN DAYS, THEN THREE TIMES WEEKLY.
TAR SHAMPOOS AND SHAMPOOS CONTAINING KETOCONAZOLE WORK NICELY.

No cure: There is no cure, just on going management.  Be sure and wash your hair daily with a good dandruff shampoo such as head and shoulders or t-gel.  If those products don't help, there is a prescription shampoo called Nizoral (ketoconazole) that may work better.  You will need to see your doctor and discuss other options.

Preventive: Nothing to do to prevent her from getting it. It is certainly not harmless and don't worry about it - just enjoy her!
