Black eye: A black eye should be evident if you check yourself in the mirror.  The concern abotu getting smacked in the head real hard is a concussion - altered or loss of consciousness, visual complaints, headaches, ringing in the ears, nausea and vomiting are just some of the symptoms.  If symptoms are severe, there are multiple symptoms, they persist or get worse people should get this cleared medically.

Get examined by Dr.!: You might even need an xray to make sure you haven't fractured a rib during your trauma. Plus, you need to be seen by the eye doctor to make sure you didn't cause injury to your eye, or have an eye fracture. This has to be seen in person. The rib connects from the spine (mid back?)to the sternum, depending on the Rib #. So get seen soon, and get relief!

Hematoma: The hard bump is likely a periosteal hematoma due to the trauma that causes the black eye.  Try ice packs or cool compresses and it should go away with time.

Were there X-rays: You might have suffered a fracture over the zygomatic arch or over the orbit, and this could explain delay, but lingering symptoms could afflict the supra-orbital or infra-orbital branches of the trigeminal nerve.  Best to get assessed by either neurologist, or neurosurgeon.  Also, get help preventing future seizures.

Infection: This sounds like an infection, possibly related to a bug bite.  I recommend you have your eyes checked out as soon as possible.

Get exam: With the symptoms you are reporting, I would suggest getting an exam.
You certainly have had significant head trauma, and possibly also a concussion symptoms now.

Documenting this is very important if there are any lasting problems.

Ice for 48 hours: First determine if the eye underneath is ok.  Elevate the lid and see if the vision is close to that of the other eye (or close to what is was before).  If the vision is down see your ophthalmologist.  If there is no evidence of infection, and the damage seems to be just bruising, then use ice for 48 hours (10 minutes at a time about every two hours when awake) to stop bleeding. Then keep it clean.

Cool packs: initially cool compresses can limit the amount of bleeding and size of bruise. After the bruise has stabilized then warm compresses can speed up the absorption of the black and blue. Some also believe that arnica Montana can speed the resolution.

Personal : Experience says yes. Ice is used mainly to decrease and limit swelling and is usually done for up to 24 to 48 hours after injury. Same as for a sprained ankle.
