Yes - w/o treatment: Dvt can break free from your deep veins, travel through your bloodstream, and lodge in your lungs. This clot can block blood flow in your lungs, which can strain your heart and lungs.  This pulmonary embolism is a medical emergency. Dvt can also lead to chronic vein problems and swelling

treatment with blood thinners is very effective in reducing risk. Compression stocking also recommended.

6 months : Dvt in pregnancy is treated with a variation of Heparin called Lovenox which is injected just under the skin twice a day. Coumadin (warfarin) is fatal to the fetus and should never be given during pregnancy. A 3 to 6 month recommendation is given depending on the patient's other ongoing risk factors after delivery.

Help: Aspirin is a form of an anticoagulant that lessens the chance of a blood clot.  However, the most important thing you can do is make sure that you don't have a DVT in your leg.  Will likely need a venous doppler ultrasound.

Safer Than Not!: A recurrent pulmonary embolus could be fatal so i would suggest that the risk of bleeding associated with the warfarin is much lower than the risks of recurrent clot. Possible alternative would include placement of a filter in your ivc which has its' own possible complications.

i took a flight last thursday to johannesburg from durban. since the flight the top of my left leg has been painful and my legs feel very heavy. should i be concerned? is there a risk of blood clots or deep vein thrombosis? i had covid-19 in july

Be concerned: Leg swelling or pain after sitting for a long  airplane or car trip is always a cause for concern. I would go to an ER to have yourself evaluated because you may need an ultrasound of your legs and most doctors don't have that available in their office. Good luck.

What about chemical: Sometimes the pain is neuro-muscular.  Have you had your electrolytes checked and what about your blood circulation

The : The peroneal vein is one of several veins in the lower leg that are collectively referred to as "deep veins." clots can form in these veins in a variety of circumstances, including prolonged bedrest, long airline flights, trauma, or exposure to agents like birth control pills.  Some people are at risk for clots because of abnormalities in their blood.

If you have peroneal clots, you should be evaluated for a clotting disorder and it may be appropriate for you to take some blood thinning agents. These are issues that you should definitely discuss with your doctor.

See pain management: specialist. There are many and various illnesses which could cause bad pain in both legs, (e.g. pinched nerve, peripheral neuropathy,etc.). Swelling: A venous ultrasound is the test done to check for blood clots. An MRI of the thigh,if negative, is reassuring that there is no tumor. If thigh swelling persists, consult an orthopedic surgeon.
