Several hours: Most patients are able to (and should) get out of bed and walk within a matter of hours after laparoscopic bariatric surgery.  This will help reduce the risk of blood clots as well as stimulating deep breathing, which will help reduce the risk of pneumonia.  After going home walking or some other aerobic activity should be a daily activity.

1-2 weeks: You should be off of narcotic pain medication and comfortable behind the wheel before resuming driving.  For laparoscopic surgery this is usually 1-2 weeks, with patients undergoing open surgery needing more time.

how long do i have to stay in the hospital after i have bariatric surgery?

Length of stay: There are several different weight loss procedures.  The length of stay will vary from procedure to procedure.  I require a 1 night stay for the mini-gastric bypass procedure that i perform.  Occasionally patients will stay 2 days.  Some procedures such as the lap band offer outpatient services, but most other procedures require a 1 to 3 day hospital stay.

Bariatric Surgery: This depends on the type of surgery that is being considered for you. Discuss with your surgeon and ask to work with a nutritionist and or a dietician before and after the planned intervention.

Yes: While there many restrictions following bariatric surgery, most people are still able to eat seasoned or "spicy" foods.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Unless there is a complication causing poor absorption from your intestines, you can use birth control pills. Just be sure to ask your surgeon.
Also consider more effective methods such as iuds, or if you've completed your family then permanent contraception like hysteroscopic sterilization (essure) or vasectomy for your partner.

IT DEPENDS: After bariatric surgery if you consume high calorie foods, you can gain weight back.  Bariatric sugery should be accompanied by lifestyle changes in order to truly be effective.

Post Bariatric: What and how much are you eating? How much are you exercising. If you are not working on both of those things the bariatric surgery was a waste!

Absolutely yes!: Bariatric surgery has been determined by the national institutes of health to be the only way to lose 100 pounds and keep it off. The weight loss affects every organ system in a positive way, generally adding 20 good years to your life expectancy. It also resolves conditions like diabetes, reflux, hypertension, sleep apnea, arthritis or prevents them. The smartest decision you could make!

Post Bariatric: Yes. Of course.  The only thing is that you will be limited in the amount of food you can eat at any given time.
