Characterize lump: If lump is superficial in location ultrasound is more beneficial in characterizing type of tissue, and may need eventual biopsy. Mr examination for both superficial and deeper soft tissue characterization is usually better than ct examination. Again with all imaging modalities, the final diagnosis depends on biopsy and pathology.

Yes, no: There is some evidence that chest ct could put one at higher risk for thyroid cancer - but almost all of these suggest that it is dose dependent and that it would take repeated scans/exposure to elevate the risk. You can request protective covering for thyroid if need additional scans. The contrast used will not cause thyroid damage or disease.

: It is not feasible to provide an opinion without additional history, physical examination may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor to see if you may be depressed. Depression is treatable. Counter-intuitive as it may seem, exercise may help. Start with low intensity exercise such as walking and gradually increase the intensity as tolerated. Drink more water. : It can be done if the contrast use is absolutely indicated and your thyroid status should be rechecked in 2,3 weeks or sooner if you have symptoms of thyrotoxicosis. MRI with or without contrast can be an alternative option, have you discussed with your doctor and radiologist?

Resolution of Image: If the inflammation is superficial, involving the mucosa for example, you may feel terrible, but imaging will not show much. This is because the spatial resolution, while very good, is not that good for very thin/small structures. The reason to get imaging is to exclude the presence of complications, say an abscess.
