Your chemist is: correct.  There is so little B12 (and many of the other ingredients) in Centrum and other over the counter multivitamins, that it won't make a significant difference.  Peace and good health.

Consult doctor: You B12 reading is lower than desired, It should be above 250. 1.0 mL contains enough B12 to last normal person for three months, but since your level is low before the injection, discuss with your doctor if you should take the injection monthly rather than every three months.

Moderately low: Normal B12 levels for adults are 200-900 pg/mL. So 160 IS low.  Also, many older adults will experience symptoms of deficiency even if the B12 is normal, but in low normal range.  You must have been tested and learned that you lack intrinsic factor, a protein that helps the intestine absorb vitamin B12, or have other malabsorption issues, hence the need for injections.

Please do what your: doc says.  If you use sublingual B 12 I don't see any necessity for shots for the average person.  If you swallow B 12 you will still need shots because oral B 12 is not nearly as well metabolized as sublingual.  Peace and good health.

B12 def: Are you vegetarian or vegan, they have B12 issues at times because B12 sources are animal.  May also be ileitis or intestinal issues where B12 is absorbed ( if not pernicious anemia) or dietary/ age. If you are on injections and you level are adequate ( I like above 400)  I would not  be concerned ,don't worry

Usually 1 month: For severe deficiency, initially the shots may be daily/weekly. Once levels stable, they are usually given im monthly.

Organ meats: Yes that's right.  Organ meats such as liver are great sources.  But unless you enjoy eating that kind of food, i recommend a pharmaceutical grade methyl-b12.  I do not lke the cyano B12 becuase of the cyanide group attached to the b12.  B12 is also known as cobalamin.

Take effect?: I'm not sure what you mean by 'take effect.'  the only indication for vitamin B12 injection is for people with severe B12 deficiency or those who are unable to absorb B12 from their diet. That applies to very few people. If you're being given B12 injections for 'energy, ' you should be aware that's it's a commonly administered placebo.
