As needed but...: If a baby has an infrequent and hard bowel movements, glycerin suppository may be used.  However, if infant requires suppositories often, it is prudent to have baby checked whether or not he/she has something serious, e.g., hirschsrung disease.

Half: If it is thee glycerin suppository, give half(rounded end in first).  Are you giving baby any water?  Is belly bloated and hard?  If no immediate relief with suppository, see a doctor.

Yes: Glycerin is an inert substance, so there is no risk of the medication being absorbed into the system. A bigger question though, is why would you use it that often?

Stop treatment:: I suggest the use of MiraLax, an osmotic laxative in powder form mixed with water- very effective and gentle. You must be seen and evaluated for chronic constipation.

my ob told me to use glycerin suppository for no bm in 2 weeks. it worked now i feel so much better! worked in 45 minutes. is there a chance it passed to my baby and can cause miscarriage though? 18 weeks?

:  There is no chance of the suppository impacting the developing fetus that is contained within the uterus.

Glycerin suppository: It is not safe to give to her every day, however if she hasnt gone in 3 days, it is safe to use this. Newborn stool patterns can be unusual, if her bowel movements are not hard when she does go, probably not necessary to use at all.

Once a day: Don't give glycerin more than daily for constipation, but if your 7 mo old is constipated, you need to go to the doctor and find out what the problem is, maybe adjust the diet a bit. Go talk to your pediatrician, will do some good !!

Mgt: Babies have different stool patterns. I would suggest  discontinuation of the glycerin suppositories. Continue to keep your baby well fed with mostly breast milk. If there is no stool in 5 to 7 days, a visit to your PCP is advised. At your next visit, review the results of her newborn screening tests.

: I would just continue what you are doing. It takes ~4 days for the first med to make it through to the outlet in a constipated kid. Another day or two keeping fluids up and good nutrition &amp; he should do well.

Hyperosmotic laxativ: It works by drawing water into the intestines. The effect is to cause a bowel movement usually within 15 to 60 minutes.
