Not usually: Both crypt architectural distortion and macrophages are indicative of a chronic inflammatory pattern of colonic injury.  This at term is more common in conditions with chronic ongoing or intermittent damage.  Things in the differential diagnosis include inflammatory bowel disease (crohn's or uc), diverticular associated colitis, or chronic ischemia.

Yes: The main function of the colon is the adsorption of fluid leaving the small intestine where nutrients are adsorbed.  Patients with diseases of the bowel such as inflammatory bowel disease or diffuse polyposis frequently have the entire colon removed bringing a loop of terminal small intestine out on the skin as an ileostomy.  Many people are able to lead a functional life with this stoma.

Depends on : Stage at diagnosis.  Early cancers have excellent prognosis, whereas more advanced stages have poorer outlook.  This is exactly why screening is important for this particular cancer.

Depends on the stage: Stage 1 and 2 colon cancer have excellent survival rates following good surgery. Stage 3 and 4 disease have worse chances and need chemotherapy, but a number of new chemotherapies introduced over the last 15 years and the ability to successfully remove isolated tumors in the lungs and liver have increased survival for stage 3 and 4 as well.
