Needs to be seen: Can't really tell by your description is it trauma or allergic reaction, or got inflammed/infected, is she otherwise fine? No breathing problems, no swollen tongue, etc..keep her calm, apply cold compresses and see your doctor

11 year old son up until 4am watching tv. went on motorcycle ride with loose helmet bumped down on his head.then had a headache that doesn't seem to go away with motrin and has a low grade fever 100.4. feels fine otherwise. chin to chest fine?

Accepted Answer

: A loose helmet is not likely to cause injury or headache. Are you sure he's telling you everything? Might he have fallen and struck his head? If so, he should be medically evaluated, e.g. at an urgent care center.

my 11-yo son has been getting bad headaches in temples last three nights. he had minor concussion a few months ago - not sure if related. could just be a migraine - have been alternating ibuprofen/tylenol, minor relief. what else should we do?

Accepted Answer

Probably unrelated: A concussion can cause headaches and/or lower the threshold for a headaches shortly after the concussion (within a couple of weeks). However, it's hard to connect these headaches now with a concussion months ago. Think about other causes of headaches- stress, low blood sugar, eye fatigue/poor vision, infections, dehydration, etc. Of course, see your pediatrician if not improving.

is 400 mg of ibuprofen too much for an 8 year old?

High for most: The recommended dose is 10 mg/kg which would be appropriate for for a kid who weighs 88 lb or the average 12 yo male. The dose for the average 8 yo male would be 250 mg.

i have a 10 year old who weighs 130 lbs. can she take an adult ibuprofen 200 mg?

Accepted Answer

Yes she can: But read the labels carefully, don't exceed recommended dosage/duration, take after meals not on an empty stomach, usually the dose for kids is 5-10 mg/ kg every 6 hours, and she weighs around 60 kgs, obese though, check this link for weight and height

Not a good idea: I strongly recommend against giving your 2 year old gravel at any time!

i believe my two year old ate an ibuprofen pill that is 200 mg is she going to be okay. she seems fine what should i do?

She will be ok: Standard dose of ibuprofen for a child between 24 and 35 pounds is 100 mg.  This is safe to take up to 4 times a day, so she has had a double dose with 200 mg, and should be limited to 2 more doses of 100 today if she is ill or has a fever.  She may complain of a stomach ache, but unlikely with one dose only.  Keeping meds out of reach of children this age can be a challenge, but prevention is key

Ibuprofen in kids: Unfortunately, recommendations for dosing of medications is, at least in my state, against regulations since your not established as a patient with my practice.  Making recommendations is ok but actually dosing anything is a line i can't cross.  Contact your pediatrician or primary care physician to get recommendation.

I wouldn't: The recommended dose is 10 mg/kg and the average 7 yo (@20kg) would take no more than 200 mg at one time.

Accepted Answer

: I would contact the poison control center @ 1-800-222-1222. If it was 4 it is not a lethal dose but please consult with the experts at the PCS who can advise you on the issues.
