Anemia: Anemia can be caused by blood loss in the GI tract (ulcer, gastritis, inflammatory bowel disease), by excessive menstrual bleeding (common), by breakdown of the red cells in the body (hemolytic anemia, uncommon), by hypersplenism, by bone marrow failure. Get evaluation by a gastroenterologist and a hematologist. Get blood drawn for iron, ferritin, CBC and diff.

Unclear question: Chronic use of alcohol can decrease blood count. Different people respond differently. If your blood count is low due to drinking, you are drinking way too much!

Yes.: If you are iron deficient, the cause needs to be found.  The only way a healthy adult becomes iron deficient is by blood loss.  If you are not a menstruating female, there must have been blood loss in the stool (or rarely in the urine).  It is common to do endoscopy (to see the stomach) and colonoscopy to look for possible sites of bleeding.

Lack of red cells.: Anemia is a lower than normal concentration of hemoglobin in blood.  Hemoglobin is carried by red blood cells, and our test measures the total amount of HGB carried by all red cells in a volulme of blood.  A low white blood cell count is leukopenia, and a low platelet count is thrombocytopenia.

No: A low blood count ( i assume low hemoglobin -anemia)  can be caused by many different things-like bleeding, poor nutrition, vitamin deficiency, thyroid problems,  chronic disease etc- but it does not mean ovarian cancer.

Best to be specific: Multi vitamins add the whole mix. If your counts are low in iron lets say, it is better to  take a supplement like ferrous sulphate to target just that. A long talk with your md will illuminate what is right for you.
