Keflex 4 pneumonia: No antibiotic is indicated for prevention of pneumonia. Instead, Pneumovax or Prevnar (pneumococcal vaccine) vaccinations are recommended for pneumonia prevention. You should tell her that antibiotic can negatively affect her gastrointestinal tract by causing diarrhea, c.Difficile infection which could be detrimental in the elderly, etc. Hopefully, it will click with her.

??prescribed by Dr??: This is not something i would consider advisable.It just means that the only germs hanging around her body ( and there always are some) will be resistant to that drug or similar drugs. If this is ok with her treating physician there may be factors that make it worthwhile for her. You can't convince someone who diapered you that they don't know more than you. The doc would have to do it.

Revisit your doctor: Runny nose, congestion, productive cough are signs of rhino-sinusitis with or without bronchitis depending on how it looks on your exam. Pneumonia presents more severe with fever, chest pain, cough that needs more intense medical attention. You should come back to see your local doctor to be re-evaluated. Higher dose antiobiotics plus anti inflammatory might be needed if you have sinus infection.

i got a cut in the kitchen i waited till the next day to get seen they gave me cephalexin. should i take it or treat it other ways i am healthconcious?

I would take it.: My hand has a lot of close spaces and what starts as a simple cut could end up with loss of the finger.. No doubt if it was my injury I would take the antibiotic. If you cut your forearm you would have a better probability of doing well just because of the lack of close spaces and the anatomy maintained and the hand.

i went the er and i told them that i was allergic to amoxicillion. the doctor gave me a prescription for cephalexin. should i take the cephalexin?

No, : No, you should not take the cephalexin.  Cephalexin is related to amoxicillin, and if you have had an allergic reaction to amoxicillin, this would be a risk.  Please call the emergency department and ask them to call in an alternative prescription that is not related to amoxicillin.  It is good that you were observant of this and asked this question.

Take it like a pill: The best way to take Cephalexin 500mg is to swallow it with at least 8oz of water. You can take this medication with or without food  and as directed on the prescription label. It is important to take this medication for the full curse of therapy( until it's gone) to ensure that the infection is completely eradicated and does not build resistance to the medication.
