Varies.: It's a very individual response. Some people seem to tolerate what can be considered unsafe levels for extended periods without much damage to their livers, while others don't tolerate even moderate amounts. It's a cumulative effect. The more you drink and for the longest period, the more likely to develop liver disease. Nutrition is important too. Poor nutrition makes it more likely to develop.

2 questions: Meat - very controversial, and nobody really knows. A guess - no more than 2 servings per week of red meat, other days chicken, fish or vegetarian meals, and low fat cuts are better. Alcohol - 7 drinks per week for women and older people  (14 for men), and no more than 3 drinks on one occasion. That also depends on if you have other diseases, like hep c, in which case no alcohol is really safe.

Not advisable: It is not advisable to drink alcohol with prescription medications.  Combining alcohol and prozac (fluoxetine) (fluxoetine) can increase nervous system side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience impairment in thinking and judgment.

Not relativre: Loss of fat is not directly related to alcohol intake per day, but rather a result of a balance of caloric intake (including protein, carbs, and fat) and from which specific foods plus the daily activity-exercise levels.  These factors, along with your metabolic rate and genetics have much more to do with fat reduction than the daily glass of wine or alcohol intake within reason.  Diet, exercise!

One or two: One or two drinks a day according to the usual measure ie a shot, or a glass of wine or a can of beer -- 180 cc seems a lot, and discuss it with your doctor.

Maybe pancreatitis : I've seen this before and the reaction was that of pancreatitis. This may not be your problem but please get evaluated

Not a good plan: It's not a good idea to drink alcohol when you're on fluoxetine or any other psychotropic medicine -- the effects can intensify each other. So i advise my patients not to combine such medications with alcohol.  That said, you're still in charge of what you drink.

Shouldn't: You should never drink alcohol with your medications. Discuss risks and benefits with your physician.

alcohol increases cancer risk.  but what is worse?  1 or 2 glasses per day or one bottle (5 glasses) one day per week which is much less than the 7-14 per week if you drink within the government limit.  i get that no amount is actually ok?

: Elevated cancer risk from alcohol is modest, and probably no different for the drinking patterns you describe. As for "no amount is OK", not everyone agrees. Some physicians on this forum would advise zero alcohol for all people, but many would agree that most people's health is not seriously affected by small to moderate amounts. In any case, cancer isn't the main health risk from excess alcohol.

if i drink 3-4 alcoholic drinks per day on average, can i quit alcohol cold turkey? i realize i probably drink too much and want to stop before it gets too out of hand?

: You can try, but you really need support. Find out where the nearest AA group is located and join for help and support in stopping your possible addiction and health problems in future. Your too young to be in this situation, seek help, AA does a fantastic job in helping you stop this problem.
