Not from 1 time: Doing this once is highly unlikely to cause any damage to your liver. Your liver is a robust organ that has substantial physiologic reserve. You drank the equivalent of 8.5 standard drinks in a day, which is technically a heavy drinking day. He's lucky?: One study showed that alcoholics who drank coffee on a regular basis seem to have less liver damage. He may have avoided other meds such as tylenol (acetaminophen) with the alcohol and some is just genetic. Other people who drank the same could have liver problems. Some times I am amazed as well with some of my alcoholic patients, however while the liver looks good, not all is well in their lives.

This is excessive: and is the definition of a drinking binge.  The recommended safe dose of alcohol is no more than 2 standard drinks per day (which would be about 60 ml of whiskey) and no more than 14/week, and NEVER more than 4 drinks at one occasion.  You are drinking the equivalent of 6 drinks on one occasion, and this can cause damage to liver, pancreas, GI tract, heart and especially BRAIN. Talk to your doctor

Likely: Perhaps not for the heart but for your liver and your brain.  We also know the information regarding alcohol/wine and the heart is over-hyped, there is really no reason to drink alcohol if you are trying to protect your heart by it. Here is a link:

: The total amount of alcohol intake does not change but you only drank a more diluted alcohol content, i.e. you did not increase the total alcohol intake from 30 to 100 cc when adding the water.
