PID and Infections: One should go zero days knowing they have an infection before treating. There is no one right answer to your question, except that any delay in treatment risks pid. Treat known infections urgently. Always.

Very Variable.: Untreated 10 to 15% of women w chlamydia can develop pelvic inflammatory disease (pid). Pid can start developing within weeks to months of infection.

PID: PID or pelvic inflammatory disease causes severe pelvic pain.  A pelvic exam can usually distinguish between an uncomplicated chlamydia infection and PID.  If a pelvic exam was not done and you are experiencing increased pain and vaginal discharge, I think a 2nd opinion is warranted.

Can be one episode: Pid can lead to scarring inside the fallopian tubes after a single episode, particularly if it is not treated early. This scarring can lead to infertitlity, or difficulty getting pregnant as well as pregnancies outside of the uterus, which can lead to many complications including death in a mother.

Weeks to months!: Weeks to months, although it may take longer. My advice is: since over 25% of men and women under 30 are infected, why have unprotected sex? Second, if you could have it, you should take a round of antibiotics.  Cheaper than the lab work!

i went to the doctors 2 weeks ago and got std check up and yesterday my doc told me i have chlamydia. i dont know how long i had it maybe a month. should i get tested for pid? i want kids in the futur

No further tests: The tests for PID are essentially the same as testing for gonorrhea/chlamydia. If you are positive make sure you AND your partner are treated. Avoid intercourse to prevent re-transmission until both have a negative chlamydia test.

No: Pid is a clinical diagnosis separate from chlamydia infection; zithromax alone is not an appropriate treatment for pid.  Fertility problems from chlamydia are invariably tubal problems and/or pelvic adhesions: these can be tested (respectively) by x-ray (hsg) and laparoscopy. Not all chlamydial infections cause problems, though.

Maybe: You most likely would have had pid by now.  You definitely need to get your tubes checked to see if they have been damaged.

See below: Chlamydia is known as a "silent" disease. This is because 75 percent of infected women and at least half of infected men have no symptoms.
If symptoms do occur, they most often appear within 1 to 3 weeks of exposure. The infection first attacks the cervix and urethra. Even if the infection spreads to the uterus and fallopian tubes, some women still have no symptoms. See your md.
