for the last three months, i've had bloating after each meal coupled with thinning stool and constipation.  i had an endoscopy (normal), colonoscopy (removed 3 pollips), emptying test (normal), and so far one week on xifaxan for sibo, no improvement.

Bloating: Is the emptying study for the stomach or  gallbladder? Did you have CT of abdomen? Would check gallbladder and pancreas, discuss use of creon ( pancreatic enzymes), do food diary. Consider elimination diets  one week all mild products ,one week all gluten products, one week all soy products. Also consider food allergy testing and nutriion consult. F/u/ w/ doc .

hypochondriac. in the last year i have had a colonoscopy, egd, november ct scan abdomen and pelvis blood work all good. 67 years old heart tests. always constipated. started citrucel. bloating. pain from breasts down. could this be ovarian cancer?

: If ovarian cancer causes those symptoms, it will be much easier for us to detect this horrible cancer which is most the time diagnosed in late phase. No, your symptom is consistent with constipation and adverse effect of citrucel. You should try a different laxative.

i've had diarrhea with bloating for over a year. my stool is very soft and kind of orange most days. my gastro wants a colonoscopy, but that's going to cost a ton of money. what does this sound like? should i push for other cheaper tests first?

: Sometimes people get these symptoms after infectious gastroenteritis and its called post infection IBS. The colonoscopy is a good idea as you are 49 years old and the Cancer preventive task force recommended that people get screened for colorectal cancer at age 40 to 45. Colonoscopy can rule out cancer as well as microscopic colitis which can give you these symptoms. You can negotiate the cost.

Gas and bloating: these are not really of concern by themselves if any further symptoms occur contact your physician.  Gas X or simethicine may help relieve the gas and bloating and are available OTC

Gastroenterologist: She most likely has irritable bowel syndrome with subtype of chronic constipation. If the usual remedies of adequate fluid intake, good amounts of fiber and or supplements like psyllium and taking of bowel stimulant combined with stool softener like daily senokotS don't help, consult a gastroenterologist who may prescribe one of the newer medications for her type of irritable bowel syndrome.

Belly bloating: There are lots of reasons for abdominal discomfort &amp; bloating, &amp; not all of them are due to the GI tract. Even "functional" syndromes may be present without underlying "disease." however PSBO (paralyzed gut) due to metabolic &amp; inflammatory conditions nearby (like an untreated infection of the urinary tract)must be considered &amp; addressed. Check with your doctor for examination &amp; treatment options.

Too big a topic: Can't answer "all the colon diseases" in this small field. The large categories are infectious, malignant, inflammatory, drug-induced, and inherited. The biopsy result of your polyp will tell you what kind it is and therefore what category it falls into. Someone your age usually has benign (non-cancerous) polyps that are found incidentally while a colonoscopy is being done for other symptoms.
