i had lumbar spinal fusion surgery 14 days ago.  it involved the lowest three lumbar vertebrae and the highest level sacral vertebrae; four adjacent vertebra in all.  how far should i be walking and how frequently should i be walking?

Not so simple: Walking is an excellent vehicle for rehab., but a custom designed program should start now.  A physical therapist should evaluate your capacities, strength, and flexibility, and design a graduated progressive program to maximize your abilities but not injure by excessive exercise.  Advising you on how to excercise via this format in not feasible due to variations from person to person.

why am i having major popping and large cracking throughout my t2-l1 spinal fusion? it feels different then soft tissue catching on the screws like more in the vertebrae joints in my 11 spine levels that i had surgery on. is this failed fusion?

: Unfortunately, would ordinarily expect these findings in a much older individual.  Your reported findings are consistent with degenerative disc disease and lumbosacral spondylosis.  Perhaps this all is due to prior trauma??

i have a burst fracture in my l1 vertebrae and have been in a tlso brace for the past 9 weeks. i still have a high pain level, often - is this normal?

Yes : Burst fracture is usually result of direct blow injury as MVA. Healing takes time . Psi cones also from muscles, nerves, tendons alongside the spine . Once neurosurgeon clears you off brace - keep PT. Pain medicine consult with MD . Get off narcotic ASAP.

i crashed on my mountain bike 2 weeks ago and hurt my shoulder and back. the shoulder is healing but my back is still very painful. the back pain feels like it is at a vertebrae level with my shoulder blade. i'm worried that i have a fracture?

Possibly: Have it evaluated and an x ray will tell you if there is a fracture.

: The pace of healing is clearly  age dependent, and  fracture stabilization is very slow indeed above age 80 yrs.  Would discuss this  with an orthopedic surgeon and check out various options for healing, such as bone stimulation, ongoing need for cervical bracing, surgical interventions, etc.

Let me explain: Pain originate from the vertebrae could come from the bone itself or from the disc between the vertebrae.
So if you have problems in the vertebrae you will have pain with activity and stiffness in the morning around the area involved.
If the disc involved i, t depend what level the nerve get pinch and you have pain in the area and radiation of the pain to the leg and numbness.

Long term: Complications include pain and degenerative changes above and below the fused vertebrae. You can also develop scarring issues in the area. Avoid having this surgery unless there is instability or you have had absolutely refractory pain and cannot be functional anymore with the pain.
