i've always heard that under general anesthesia, it takes the body longer to heal. is that true?

General anesthesia: is a state of immobility, no pain sensation, unconsciousness, and stable vital signs. All of that is used to perform surgery for it's duration. Once the surgery is over, you wake up very shortly after. Healing begins immediately and anesthesia doesn't interfere with it in any way.

Possible: Many variables. Your age at the time, the reason for the anaesthesia, and most importantly the length of the anaesthesia are all factors that may cause long term affects. Also have to consider your vitals during the anaesthesia and especially oxygenation. Overall though anaesthesia is much safer today than ever.

Anesthesia units: Any anesthesia cost is calculated in  15 min units, as an average the cost is between $200-300.00 per unit, plus an addition of a couple units for preop assessment, as an average cost for 1 hour case would be $1200 to 1500.00.

Turning off: The gas or IV infusion allows the medications to leave your body or be metabolized and ineffective. There are reversal agents for some of the medications. You will be given supplemental oxygen until your respiration becomes satisfactory.

Volatile anesthetics: General anesthesia is commonly initiated with propofol, an intravenous anesthetic, to render the patient unconscious.  General anesthesia is then usually maintained with inhaled volatile anesthetics through a breathing tube.  Opioids and other medications may be used to supplement the volatile anesthetic during general anesthesia.

Nothing Brain asleep: The mind is asleep and unaware. The body is unchanged, working as it normally would. The anesthesia provider is there to monitor you and intervene if any adjustments need to be made.

Quick sleep: When they put you under, they will give you a medicine called an induction agent. This medicine will quickly put you into an unconscious state. After that, you will not be aware of anything until you wake up in recovery after your procedure. I know it seems scary, but the anticipation is worse than the event. Hope this helps!

It depends : Excision of a cyst it can be done with many different anesthetics. The type of the anesthetic depends on patient's preference, surgeon's preference and anesthesia needed for the the cyst. Unless you are more specific, a clear answer is not possible. For example, a 1 cm cyst requires different anesthesia than a 10 cm cyst.
