Ativan (lorazepam) & alcohol: Ativan (lorazepam) will stay in your system for about 8 hours. The sedative effect of alcohol adds to the effect of the ativan (lorazepam). I would recommend avoiding alcohol for 6-8 hours after a dose and avoid driving.

: Ativan has a half-life of 12 hours, so 12 hours after you take it, half is still in your system. Ativan is also addictive and synergistic with alcohol so the regular use of either will cause the same withdrawal symptoms when stopped. Treating combined addiction to alcohol and Ativan is extremely challenging and repeated use of both on the same day will create dependence in as little as two weeks.

Depends: Depends more on the length of time you've been on the Ativan (lorazepam).  If you are on a standing dose of 1 or more doses daily then, it may take a bit longer for the medication to get out of your system entirely, say 5-7 days.  If you only take doses PRN for anxiety then, you should be OK after 2 days.

first day off of xareltro, im waiting a ice cold bloody mary, i know people told me to go ahead and have a celebration drink but is it safe this soon? also i took my ativan this morning should i wait a few hours for that? thank you?

: Avoid alcohol. Alcohol is a poison that never did anybody any good, ever, so stay away from it. It will destroy your brain cells, facilitate development of cancer in many organs, including breast, cause hepatitis, cirrhosis and pancreatitis etc. There is no safe level of alcohol intake. Quit while you are ahead.

: With immediate-release oral tablet, ativan level becomes insignificant after 48 -72 hours so interaction with alcohol after that duration is negligible. However, as a doctor I am more concerned about the risk of alcoholism based on your question. Take care.

: Alcohol is not essential by any stretch of the imagination. You definitely should wait at least 24 hours and also consider not drinking ongoing since you use Ativan.

75 hours: Half life of ativan (lorazepam) is about 15 hours.  Normally need 5 half lives to clear 95% of drug from system, so about 75 hours.  DO NOT MIX THIS WITH ALCOHOL!!! Can be fatal.  Dr R

The two do not mix: If a doctor recommended Ativan (lorazepam) to you, it is likely you suffer from some type of anxiety.  Alcohol will make it worse.  Also, Ativan (lorazepam) and alcohol do not mix.  They just make you more sedated, you can end up addicted to both and your anxiety will actually get much worse.  My advice:  treat the anxiety and stop drinking.  Ever considered aa?  I think it could help you.  A lot.

: It depends how much you drink. A couple drinks will be cleared after 3-4 hours so it is safer if you take Ativan after that time for avoiding significant CNS depression.
