BCC: There are several ways to treat basal cell skin cancers, depending on the location, the type of basal cell it is, and your age. There are several surgical options, including cutting it out, scraping and burning it out and mohs surgery.If you are 65 years old or older, then radiatioin therapy is a great option. Your do not get sick or lose your hair from this type of radiation.

Options: Superficial basal cell can be treated with radiation, topical creams Aldara (imiquimod) and effudex, burning and scraping or surgical excision.  Deeper basal cells are treated with radiation, scraping or excision.  I prefer excision with clearance of margins by a pathologist.

: IT NOT RARE IF YOU ARE IN THE SUN MANY HOURS OR MORE FROM A JOB OR OUTDOOR ACTIVITYS. A BASEL CELL IS NOT DANGEROUS IF TREATED SOON. IF YOU SEE A BROWN AREA IN YOUR BICEP THAN GO TO A DERMATOLOGIST FOR A BIOPSY.

Basal cell carcinoma: The lump you are referring to is a type of skin cancer. The good news is that it is very slow growing, normally does not spread and is easily curable with a simple surgical procedure.

Humectants!: Steph, a moisturizers with humectants can really help dry skin. Read the label and look for one with glycerin or urea. Eucerin has one called intensive repair. For the basal cell cancer, definitely see your dermatologist at least every 6 months. Once you have one bcc, you can have another!

Moles & skin cancer: Any pigmented mole that is asymmetric, has irregular or jagged borders, has multiple colors, is larger than 6 mm or a pencil eraser, and/or is changing in any way (getting bigger, getting taller, itching, bleeding, etc.) should be evaluated for skin cancer. To definitively tell if a mole is cancerous, a biopsy needs to be performed to examine the mole under a microscope and check for cancer.

The : The only way to determine the exact nature of a lesion is to have some tissue removed for microscopic diagnosis by a pathologist.  Basal cell carcinomas can take on many forms.  See your dermatologist for evaluation.

Invasion of BCC: While this is very very rare there have been reported cases. The main reason to have it removed is that the larger it gets the harder it is to remove. The scar will be bigger and you will wish you had it removed when it was smaller.

: Basal Cell skin cancer is one of the simpler localized cancers that is easily cured by complete removal. It is not known to seed through the blood to other sites. It is not one of the "family" that finds an individual susceptible to several other cancers. If not removed it slowly destroys the adjacent tissues and structures and can set a person up for other more serious medical complications.

Light for skin cance: Infrared light is not a treatment for skin cancer. Uv light is the moan risk factor for skin cancer.
