MRI has no radiation: If it is radiation that you are worried about, then MRI is the scan of choice for you since it has no radiation.  That being said, you always have to weigh the risks versus benefits of any procedure.  The risks of a CT are relatively small, whereas the risk of an undetected aneurysm or tumor are quite high.  If you are really anxious, ask your doctor if he can prescribe an anti anxiety medication.

Yes it is safe...: Very small amounts of some forms of gadolinium contrast (about 1% of the injected dose) are retained in the tissues, mostly in the bones, with tiny amounts in the brain. There are no known adverse effects from these very small amounts of retained gadolinium. Allergy-like reactions occur in 1 in 1000 patients (itchy skin rash); severe allergic reactions occur in 1 in every  10,000 people.

Yes & No: If you have normal kidney function, 98% of the gadolinium dose is excreted in your urine and out of your body by 24 hours. The rest is eliminated in your stool. A mild fatty liver shouldn't affect this.

Rarely: It is possible but rare. Gadolinium contrast has been associated with a rare condition called nephrogenic systemic fibrosis, which is essentially damage to the kidneys.

Contrast: Gadolinium is used when there is a desire to exclude or further define processes that  may show increased enhancement (contrast accumulation). Such processes can include tumors, inflammation, and infection. Gadolinium is not routinely used when there is a history that suggests disc disease or trauma.

Good question : If renal function is normal, adverse affects are very unlikely.The frequency of all acute adverse events after an injection of gadolinium ranges from 0.1% to 2%. The vast majority of these reactions are mild, including coldness at the injection site, nausea +/- vomiting, headache, warmth or pain at the injection site, paresthesias, dizziness, and itching. "allergic" reactions are very unusual.
