Chlamydia: no it should not take any longer to cure it. You may want to return to your doctor after treatment to be rechecked for a cure.  Discuss this with your doctor.

A number of drugs!: Best and oldest: doxycycline. Others: zithromycin; ciprofloxin and related drugs. I would (if i were young & unmarried, suggest a course of one of the above to any potential sexual partner, since it is so common!

Make sure: Usually the single dose is effective.  It is also critical that any & every sexual partner of yours gets treated as well, and that you do not have unprotected intercourse with someone with the infection until both parties are treated. There are longer courses of treatment, usually a week of Doxycycline twice a day is very effective as well.

Yes retest: A test about 2 weeks after treatment is always recommended to make sure the chlamydia is gone.  Also any sexual partners you have had recently should be tested/treated.  Condoms are recommended to help prevent sexually transmitted diseases, even with oral sex.

Yes, with correct Rx: Chlamydia is a fully curable bacterial disease, provided that the correct antibiotic is prescribed and that it is taken as directed, and you are not reinfected by the same partner again. That's a lot of ifs. If you have been treated but still experience symptoms, see your doctor again for a second evaluation. You may need a second course of antibiotics.

Not recommended: Chlamydia is a disease that can lead to chronic pelvic pain, infertility, and ectopic pregnancy.  It is caused by a bacteria, thus the most tested and effective treatment is with antibiotics.

Although some natural cures have been postulated, they lack the rigorous testing required by the FDA to ensure safety and effectiveness.

No, no, no, no!!: Please seek appropriate ANTIBIOTIC treatment if this is affecting you. Whomever told you that garlic is a natural remedy is greatly mistaken.

I think: You mean zithromax and ceftriaxone. Yes, the zithromax treats chlamydia, the Ceftriaxone is to treat gonorrhea. They are often both given, even if only one of the two infections is noted. Good luck!
