Depends on type: Post-op deficits, such as short-term memory  problems, depend on the type of surgery, location, how much brain tissue was manipulated, length of surgery, etc. It can last a few weeks, to being permanent. I would ask your neurosurgeon those specific questions.

Neurologic exam: Your symptoms merit a careful examination by a neurologist as well as a comprehensive medical exam.  Sometimes, memory loss is a side-effect of a drug.

Varies: It can last a month to months. I would highly recommend seeing an acupuncturist/chinese medicine practitioner. I have had more rapid recovery in patients by adding these treatments. He may also have headaches for a couple months and mood swings from the injury. He needs to stay hydrated as well and it is ok if he needs school adjustment as he will not perform well until he is better.

See if you have any other symptoms, and check yourself for those conditions.  In an otherwise completely healthy adult without symptoms, short-term memory loss needs to be evaluated by a physician.

Forget about it.....: Lol.Could not resist. Depends ho bad the memory loss is and how it is affecting you. If it is impacting your daily life and ability to function, please see your physician. You may also seek the help of an acupuncturist/chinese medicine practitioner as their skills can help balance the body. Regular exercise, decreasing junk food, adding omega three fatty acids may also  be helpful.
