One hour: Most hernia operations can be performed in approximately 1 hour.  Complex hernia repairs such as incisional hernias and some recurrent hernias may take a little longer.

Yes: 90% healing at 6 weeks. It should feel better each day.

Scar tissue: After any surgery it is not unusual to have some scar formation. It can be on the surface or beneath the skin.

Seroma: Majority of time six months is enough time for seroma to resolve. At this point it can safely be aspirated if resolution is not satisfactory. How it should be done depends on comfort level of surgeon. It can be done with or without ultrasound. With ultrasound is somewhat safer.

i had femoral hernia surgery (lapro) last week--can i do normal activity?

Should be ok: My postoperative instructions for lap groin hernia are to return to normal, full activity as tolerated by pain. It's usually 1-2 weeks. Ask your surgeon for their postop instructions. Just call the office and they should be able to tell you straight away.

i had inguinal hernia surgery last year now i have off and on pain on left side. dr says no hernia & there is nothing visible. what could it be?

Probably scar: and possibly entrapped nerve.  Ask your surgeon if a cortisone injection might help.  If pain becomes unbearable, sometimes a re-operation becomes necessary, but this is very rare.

I don't think: this is normal, but I can't imagine anything going on 5 weeks post op.  Show it to your surgeon.  Maybe mesh reaction, if you had one placed.

Strain: More than likely a muscle or ligament was strained. Rest the groin from any further stress. If pain doesn't gradually abate or if there's any swelling,severe tenderness or redness, see your surgeon for evaluation and advice.

: This will depend on cause. At your age most common would be rusty arteries going to penis due to atherosclerosis. But sudden change after surgery suggests relationship. I would discuss with surgeon who knows what was done exactly and what the usual course is after their surgery in men like you. You did not mention it surgery was on both sides?
