It depends: It depends on whether it is the short acting or extended release form. Its effect lasts about 5 hours in most people in the short acting form. It is totally gone in about  18-24 hours. The long acting form is totally gone in 24-36 hours.

Soon: For lowering blood glucose, you will start to see the effects of metformin in a few days to a week.  For pcos, it may take longer (several months) to see a normalization of periods, fertility, etc.

Metformin 500: Metformin 500 is usually taken twice a day - out of your system every 12 hours.

I don't think it can cause a faulse positive test if you are monitoring your blood sugar.

Possibly slightly: People with diabetes often have slight impairment in immune responses.  However i'd doubt that there will be significant change in the immune system with your type of diabetes from metformin.

DM diagnosis: No need to stop metformin. Get an a1c test not a ggt. The GGT is not recommended as a diagnostic test by the a da. A1c less than 5.7 is normal. 5.7-6.4 is pre diabetes. Above 6.5 is diabetes.

Not common : What do you mean aby nervous side effects? 
Anything in medicine can cause something or some type of side effect. The golden question is : is it common to cause nervous side effectrs and the answer is absolutely not.  What i intermittently encountered that metformin can cause shortness of breath which can cause much anxiety.

PCOS: PCOS is not one disease but most likely is the final common path of multiple causes.  If your PCOS is due to insulin resistance, then the prescription should help.  I would start slow with the medication because it has GI side effects.  Hope this hleps!

Re-evaluate: Foods are fermenting into alcohol. With dm type ii  eat 6 equal meals with  no dairy, wheat, or sugar, 6 servings of colorful vegetables ( a few low carb grains no rice or corn), one apple, nuts and berry fruit in salad with 3 t olive oil divided in 6 equal meals, manage stress, take sufficient vit d ( 10, 000 units of d3 a day fights depression) and   move 60 minutes a day. Try pretend jump roping.
